Suggestions for algae eaters

I have one relatively large hermit of unknown species at the moment, and I'd planned to add more as the tank became more established. He has dark legs with a white vertical stripe down each. I haven't been able to find it on liveaquaria or any other online livestock outlet.

So how long has your tank been set up?????
How much live rock do you have in there????
One snail and one hermit don't seem like much of a clean up crew. The CUC should of been introduced to the tank long before any fish were introduced.

It may seem like these "guys" are trying to confuse you, but I think they just don't like to see people jump into this hobby with out really having a grasp of whats going on in a very delicate environment that is present in our reef tanks.

Give them a chance, you will find a lot of good advice at ARC.

But, really, you need to do some research!!!!!

None of us want to see you lose any fish or have your tank crash.

Good luck!!!

I don't know where in this thread I've hinted that this is my first attempt at a tank or that I don't do research. I started this thread looking for some interesting alternatives to turbo snails, that's all. As for not having an adequate cleanup crew, I didn't see the point in having to supplement a bunch of snails and such in a 2 month old tank. I'd prefer to slowly build them up as the tank comes to require them rather than throw them in all at once.

Sea hares eat hair algae. I have 6 urchins and they keep the tank spotless (all my softies are glued).

I don't like hermit crabs since they kill snails in search of larger shells. Just overstock with snails.

i'm starting to get a decent growth of algae, enough that my turbo snail can't even put a dent in it. I know the answer is probably just "more snails", but i'd like something a little more interesting. I was almost sold on a tuxedo urchin but i've heard that they can wreck corals and rock in an attempt to camouflage themselves. any suggestions for a 60 gal?
<span style="color: red">I did not realize that you were looking for grazers only.per the above statement I thought all suggestions were allowed.

I apologize for offending you. In the last few years I've seen lots of people that did not understand how to deal with algae in their tanks , became frustrated and eventually left the hobby. The first question people ask them is "what are your parameters " which may be in check but the algae is still there. The algae burns through those nutrients giving the illusion of low nutrients.
I hope that you tank will need less algae eaters in the future.
Sincerely best wishes:)

You didn't offend me, and I'm sorry if I came off as rude. I don't pretend to know everything, and your advice really is appreciated. The reason I've been slowly adding cleanup rather than throwing them all in at once is because that's the advice I was given from multiple sources. I also plan on adding a HOB refugium in the very near future (possibly tomorrow if I get the time), which is another reason that I'm not terribly concerned with nitrate buildup.

How long is your light cycle and what lighting?
10 hours on, 14 off, 48" 4-bulb T5, 2 actintic and 2 daylight, on a timer.

Doesn't that behavior depend on the species? The one hermit I do have is far larger than any snail I plan on getting anyway. Stupid unidentifiable hitchhikers... One LFS hadn't a clue what he was and another told me it was a "Milk hermit", which as far as I can tell isn't a thing.
