After 3 failed attempts, my cool fairy wrasse finally jumped. Attempt #1 into the overflow, attempt #2 and 3 out of the tank and onto the floor. Fortunately, I was working on the sump and heard him hit the ground. He WAS pretty resilient. Needless to say, I ordered a glass cover for the tank.

My family and I were going on vacation so I made a small opening so that the automatic fish food feeder could drop food into the tank. Well, the crazy wrasse found the opening and jumped onto the tank cover and was quickly cooked by the lights.

RIP you little wrasse.

Glass cover going to heat the water up and cut down on par.Id go for a mesh cover.

I feel your pain!!!! I love to watch a Orange Diamond Goby sift the sand. They keep the bottom of a tank looking white and clean. The sponsor store that I have purchased about five of them from leaves their tank lids wide open. When I get them home they are resilient until they find their home on the floor. I have had them find their way through an overflow and into the sump. I have had them squeeze through a hole smaller than their body even when I have taken the time to stuff any tiny opening around returns with plastic wrap. These little guys laugh at glass tops then jump. Go figure.....Any way I feel your pain.

I like the mesh for the cover. As a short term fix, I've replaced the glass covers with a white plastic grid (light covers bought at Home Depot and cut down to size).

Thanks for the info.
