So i've been getting higher nitrate readings lately (10-15),so after a few water changes and changing out my GFO and no change, I noticed i'm getting some detritus build up in my sump, but i'm not sure how to vacuum it out. Any ideas? I tried a small recirc pump into a filter sock, but no good. I also cant get a siphon started.

Bucket head at home depot

GFO will not do much for trates...

Only phosphates..

Carbon dosing, solid carbon filtration, water changes, denitrifier, skimmer..

I put a power head in the sump I use its outlet to start the siphon

I'm thinking about drilling the sump and putting a valve at the bulkhead. I don't want to add more equipment unless absolutely needed... at least untill my new system is up and running.

Edit: mysterybox, thanks for the heads up on the Bucket Head. I'm going to pick up one tonight, that will work perfect.
