sump cleanout???

James what about buying to shop vac attchment that snaps to a 5 gallon bucket. Drilling that bucket and having the drain line go out the window or something? The bucket vac would have to be up higher then the window, but that should not be a big deal.

I do plan on putting a couple Koralias or MJ's in this section of my sump for that very reason, as soon as I get all the gunk out, I had one before but it was only enough flow to keep half the sump clean, then it all settled on the other side...

Sound like a good idea. ;) Works great.

Pythons are only good for fine detritus. Any snail shells, etc will clog it up big time.

Dawg's idea is best IMO. Shop Vac top on a brute...with a submersible pump to pull the collected water outside.

My sump is much smaller than yours, I suspect. I use a 6 gallon shop vac and just vacuum once in a while as part of a water change.

why not just add some brittle stars or even a cool little lobster in the sump and let them feast on the deterious? This would let them do ALL the work ;)

Hate to sound obvious, but how 'bout getting a genu-ine "sump pump" actually designed to muck up dirty water (from basements and such). Plugged that phrase into ebay and got 665 matches, including this really pretty one:

Just a thought FWIW.

They're generally not "reef safe". They'll have exposed metal and even copper parts.
