I plan on building a 10 gallon sump. Will the 1/8 thickness glass at home depot work for the baffles or do i need to go to a glass shop and get 1/4?

They'll work but they probably won't clean the glass off leaving you exposed to slicing your hand open.

I did the Lowes glass thing when I built my sump for my now retired 95 gallon tank. It did the job but I did cut myself a couple of times just cleaning the sump.

The thickness isn't so much an issue as it is getting it smooth. In hindsight, I wish I had paid a touch more and got a glass shop to do it.

If you use the thin stuff, split some airline and put it over top of the glass. That should help keep you from slicing yourself during maintenance of the sump.

Don’t use single strength glass. Double is the smallest. It’s close to 1/8” triple is better almost 3/16” but not stocked at HD or lowes. ¼ plexy or lexan will bow or deflect due to pressure. Take a sanding block and scuff the top of the glass pane to remove the sharp edges.

Not sure if you need it or worth the drive (Marietta / Acworth) but I have several squares of glass (5) that I had made / cut at a glass company for a sump a while back. They are 10 in by 11 1/2in. They are yours if you want them.

Just curious but any reason why a cheap 10 gallon aquarium with some baffles caulked in wont work for you?

Yep your right, my bad.

I can totally agree then with using the thicker glass to avoid cuts. Also get the glass edges rounded/grinded. Its bit more but well worth it. Diamond glass in Alpharetta is cheap and quick. I have no affiliation with them but close for you, where I go. Its near downtown Alpharetta. Ive gotten several pieces cut from them and never had an issue.

The glass I have mentioned above was never used. It was a bit too short in length for my sump. If you go to a glass store measure well....
