Sump with glass partitions

Hello all,

I am in the design phase of my sump. I am using a standard 75 gal tank and would like to use glass partitions instead of acrylic. The challenge is that for each piece of glass that needs to be installed, it has to meet a corner that has silicone in it that make a slight concave shape so that the edge of the glass will not fit perfectly where it meets the existing walls of the tank. I wanted to know if anyone made a sump using glass partitions and if so how did they overcome this challenge.

I have done this with a glass grinder(I dabble in stained glass too). I just eased the edges a little so there wasn't a sharp point gouging the silicone. I will say that most here will say it doesn't matter.

I've done it several times and it is not a problem. You just put a nice bead of silicone all around the partition. Just make sure you ask the person cutting the glass to polish the edges.

Don't bother grinding the corners where it is meeting the silicon as you are adding new silicon to both sides of the glass. I have built many sumps in the past with glass baffles and have never grounded the corners. In fact most baffles will need to be a little on the shorter side width ways as it is easier to put them in if there is a little wiggle room. You can always fill in this gap with silicon.

You can check out "Seth the Wine Guy's" build as that is the most recent sump I built and it was pretty complex and all baffles were glass.

Thank for all the reply guys. I will get the glass cut a little less thank the inside width and if I don't like the way it fits, i'll take you up on your offer grouper therapy.
