Just wanted to see what your thoughts or experience has been with letting direct sunlight hit your tank through a window? Where I positioned my new tank I could open the shutters and let the sunshine in (isn't that a song?). Anyway LMK what you think. :) Thanks

No way! Unless you want algae like you've never seen and a good temp spike.

just cutback your display lighting. mine gets a couple hours and the corals that see it come or stay out.

One end of my tank is next to floor to ceiling window. The corals love the morning sunlight coming through. Doesn't seem to affect my temp but yes it does promote a bit of algae growth. I just hit the tank walls with the mag float every couple of days and it isn't too bad.

I've got a 120 that gets some light in the morning, on just one side. I haven't had any problems the the side that gets light but it's only from about 7:30 til about 10 ish.

As for the temp, I check the APEX records and no increases during that time. I believe that the size of the tank should be a factor. A monster like Oz's or Acroholic any increase would just be a blip on a nano it might be a different story.

my tank gets a few hours of sunlight in the am and the corals go crazy and are happy it looks like. So far no bad algae but its only been 6 weeks since i started doing this. here are some pics i took the other day. This is my frag tank where all my coral and live stock are waiting for me to set them up a new DT
