This fixture is second hand to me. Received January 2011. And could of swore the previous owner said the actinics were not VHO.

I am replacing my metal halides and need to replace my actinics.

The writing on the bulb is worn. I can read F54T5.

Everything I am searching says this bulb is a T5VHO. It very well maybe VHO. Any way to find out for sure?

Can you post a pic, maybe a bit easier to tell ya if we can look at it.

Not tonight, I am at the fire house working til 7am. But It is 48" long and same diameter as every other T5 bulb I have used for my fresh water tanks.

It is 2 prong on each end. And only readable writing is F54T5. The other writing is rubbed off, indicating to me, they are old and should of been replaced a long time ago.

I was thinking this too. BUT I don't want to burn that beast down. Wouldn't look good on a resume.

Headlines would say "Fireman burns house down using wrong bulbs, looses 1000's of dollar in fish/coral" with the song "cause you had a bad day" playing in the background.

VHO's are also T12 bulbs. The numbers represent 1/8ths of an inch diameter. T5= 5/8", T12 or VHO=12/8" or 1.5".

He was probably cheap and bought it at home depot. Numbers sound like a GE bulb

Then Mufret is right... he was anyway, I mean he answered what you really wanted to know. A 48" 54w bulb is a T5HO. They are the same diameter as any other T5 (see above), but higher wattage for a given length.

i diddnt think so. thats prob the route i would have taken, hope the fixture works well for ya!

You can overdrive the T5 lamps.. but that has to do with the fixture and not really the lamps.. maybe thats what he was thinking? Normally the T12 (?) are referred to as VHO.
