T5 to LED

Hi,

I am due for replacing my T5 bulbs. Instead of spending $ on the bulbs, I am thinking of switching to LEDs. Currently I have 12 T5HO for a total of 480Watts on my 125G. I have SPS, LPS & RBTA thriving under these lights..

What would be the equivalent LED that I need to buy to get the same lighting? Any particular brand better than the others?

Thanks
Sree

I have 3 of the eBay leds on my 5 foot 120 and it does fine. I could probably get away with having two. I got mine for $160 a piece and they are the dimmable versions. I would like to think I could grow just about anything under these, they are really bright. I have mine set at 100% blues and 40% white.

I'm sure this can be done, but if your tank is thriving under the t5s I would be careful with such a drastic switch...

can it be done? Probably...

is there risk involved? yes....

should you do it? :) if you wanna... then why not

good luck.

What would be a good rule of thumb to follow when going from T5s to LED when it comes to the percentages and time frames before ramping up to the desired brightness?

Look into full spectrum leds if your going the ebay route there are a couple companies making some pretty value friendly units with the added green, red,uv chips on them. I had very slow growth to none with the basic blue and white units from Ebay. I feel spectrum had allot to do with that.

it would depend on the fixture you get, how powerfull it is and how many you get to cover the tank but id say dont set them to more than 50% to start with and then bump up by 10% a week till you get it to where you want it. but to be on the safe side id probably start at like 25 or 30% and work your way up from there itll take longer but i think your corals will thank you for it.
