My 4 inch gold Rim Tang has ich and after almost 2 weeks of trying to feed him medicine it was only getting worse. Tonight I finally caught him and put him in 3/4 gallon of aquarium water with 30 drops lugol's. 40 drops per 1 gallon. After 10 minutes I put him back in the tank and he quickly deterioted and might actually be dead. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Edit: crap... I guess he's dead. And now I realize how ignorant I am. Lugol's is obviously not ick medicine.

Edit: Found my paraguard and the instructions for killing the ich. (not the fish). @#$... The instructions I was using was for the coral dip, which I'm assuming most of you already know. I feel so stupid, and at the poor fishes expense.

Thanks. End to a horrible week.

I had instructions from my LFS for dipping a coral and dipping the fish for ich. Being an idiot, having a rough week with little sleep and trying desperately to catch this fish, I grabbed the wrong instructions and followed them blindly.

I have to say this is not a mistake that I will ever make again.

Makes me want to sell everything off and move on.

First...sorry for the loss

Second...Mistakes (unfortunately) do happen. Don't blame yourself.

Things happen along the way and we can just learn from them. Don't give it up, come back stronger and more determined and you will have many rewards. It can be a disappointing hobby at times but it can be just as rewarding!

+100!!! Boy, if I had a dime for every time I've thought about giving up, I'd retire!! I've been in this hobby since the late 80's and it can have it's challenges. Take mistakes, learn from them and grow. I keep things now that I never thought I could.

I'm not going anywhere, just frustrated and realize the mistake was made from moving too fast without careful thinking of what I was doing. Slow and steady wins the race. I know that.

Anyway, time to kick back, grab a cold one and watch the glow of the moonlights.

Maintaining a saltwater habitat is not the easiest thing to do... requires a lot of effort, study, and the occasional mistake. That's how we learn and that's how we share with others in our community. But in the end it's very rewarding.

It's always tough to have a set back... stick with it... you and the hobby will be better for it.
