My yellow tang has been acting strange the past few days. I've had him for over 6 months, he's pretty good size, I'd say 4" or so. He started out in my 55, and has been in my 58 for a couple of months. He's been fine, but the past few days he swims erratically, twitches, etc. My water parameters are fine and none of the other fish are acting any different. He eats fine, like a horse actually, and shows no signs of ich. Anyone experience this with their Tang? Has he maybe outgrown my tank?
Thanks

Look at the fins real close.. Sometimes that's the only place to see ich.. Probably would hurt to start looking to rehome it also..

Yup... a 58 is only really suitable as a temporary home for all but the smallest tangs. I have a yellow and a small regal in my 90 and I feel a little guilty (even though I am currently shopping for a larger tank, so it is only temporary).

yup!
red patches?
separation in head & line lateral?
small white spots that look like sand anywhere?

None of the above. What's weird is he seems to be less "twitchy" when the halide goes out.

Can you list your exact parameters?

Havn't checked for stray voltage, but wouldnt' that affect all the fish? All my electrical stuff is in my sump.
I just did a quick check yesterday of ammonia and nitrates, they were 0 and 20 (which is normal for my tank, nitrates have never been 0), temp 79.
I've had him for months, and he has been fine, it's just been the past few days.

I would test for stray voltage and see if thats it, especially since its a new thing that the tang started doing. It could be ich, but even it if its there isnt much to do with ich other than to keep the fish well fed.

I've got 4.2V stray voltage in tank, I measured my son's tank,4.2 and the wife's tank is 10.0:eek: WTF?

black to ground, red in water. After reading up online, I'm not sure this is the problem. I tried to catch him to put him in another tank, but he's smart and hides behind the rocks when the nets in the water.

If you think the fish is sick then I would suggest soaking the food in metro/focus and HUFA to try to get him healthy again while trying to pin point the cause of the illness so you can medicate accordingly. I still point toward stray voltage, especially if the numbers you posted above are accurate!

Ya, after a couple of attempts, I stopped trying to catch him. Figured the same thing, why cause undue stress. What's HUFA?

What makes me possibly think voltage as well is the word "twiches" in the original post.

Unplugged my heater and the voltage dropped to 1.8. Plugged in a different heater, back up to 4.3

I notice he also isn't eating the seaweed. He eats up the pellets like a horse, but doesn't hardly nip at the seaweed. I read somewhere to dip it in some kind of garlic?

PH is 8.2

You should see what my voltage reads.. Yikes!

Nothing is out of the normal and I'm such a genius that I even made sure to stick my hand in with wet feet.. No shock..
Not really sure what the story with it is.. Unplug everything from the DC8 and get 27 volts.. Unplug the dc8 from the wall and get .4 volts..
