Yeah im sure this is bad but this tank looks amazing..

I had two tangs in my Bc and they did great. I had HA everywhere and they Decimated it. His fish look super healthy so it snot like they are suffering. They just cant swim to much. We ought to train our fish to swim in front of the power head and that way he can spread his fins

Lol Same here. I started with t12 lights then went to t5s to LEDS. I just got a MH a year ago and never used it but twice for a week or two

The flow in that tank is amazing. I don't think it's terribly overstocked, although it is too small for those tangs. Replace those with something more nano-friendly, and I think it'd be great.

Who is to say a tank is overstocked? As long as the fish and coral are happy and you can keep your water in check whats the problem? I personally don't think whale sharks should be in a tank, but as long as they keeP em happy i won't complain.

Well, who's to say whether a fish is happy or not? If you ask me, those tangs look</em> perfectly happy. However, from what we know from their habits in the wild, we know that they need a large tank with plenty of room to swim. Just because a fish shows no signs of being stressed doesn't necessarily mean we are providing the best possible environment for them.

I agree to some extent (and try to follow the guidelines) but at the same time i think that we can't even begin to compare to the oceans reefs and/or size. I think if we can accomplish keeping them healthy we are doing a good job!

Exactly. My only point is that we do have guidelines based on what we know of the fish's wild habitat and we should try our best to stay within those guidelines (unless, of course, there is evidence that those guidelines should be changed.)

Happy reefing!

My daughter says it looks fake ... i guess because of how the colors pop ....

started to say it looks like a smart reefer in that he may be using VHO for his actinic :) NOTHING like VHO actinic!

it's easy to tell if Tangs are happy..

if they've got ich.. they're not happy.. if they dont.. they're happy..

I'd disagree that the tank is overstocked at all..
he couldn't keep those fish in there forever.. but they're fine given their current size..

Not sure these days. Most LFSs used to carry em. Seeing how I havent shopped for a VHO bulb in several years I couldnt tell ya. They look like regular fluorescent bulbs.

I'm not going to argue with the idea of guidelines, i think they are a good thing. My thoughts have always been they were there to give the fish(and reefer) the best chance for health and survival. That being said if someone can keep the same fish in something smaller and keep them fat and happy i'm all for it. I realize that we can't tell if a fish is "happy" so what i mean is not stressed from lack of room, other fish, or bad water quality. Me personally, i tend to go for smaller fish than ones suggested for a tank like mine, but thats just me. Makes for a lower bio-load... Happy reefing to you as well!!!!!

Is that a good flow? Im a new reefer and that seems like alot! Do I need yo run and get more power heads
