OK so I need to know the secret. I now have a Pacific sailfin in my 160 DT. And was going to add my Yellow tang back to the DT , which she has been in the QT for 3 weeks . Because of aggression at a previous sailfin I had , which is now deceased. Please how many is too many in a 160 dt and which are more compatible?

I know it has been done, but mixing the same genus of tangs does not usually turn out well, been there done that.

I have a Sailfin and a kole tang they fought for about a day cutting each other up and then now they don't even notice each other. They'll eat from the same source and both swim passed each other without aggression

I have 4 (1 purple, 1 powder blue, and 2 yellow) in my 120..With the Purple being about 4 to 4.5 inches long. Of course the key thing is to add the most aggresive tang LAST which in my book is the purple tang. Add it when the lights are off if possible and have plenty of pictures of the same tangs and maybe of other tang species taped all over the tank. Over a period of a week, slowly remove one and a time .

thanks , just lost my Yellow in the QT tank??:aww:

that yellow was with me since i started in the hobby 15 mths ago!! im crying over this one. I have lost 7 fish now since in hobby, getting frustrated!! but not getting out. I put her in my 30 gallon QT tank 3 weeks ago after she got too aggressive with my new sailfin. well the sailfin died. I went back and got another Pacific sail and took the yellow and put in the QT until i add all the new fish . she was big buddies with a single anthias female I had in the DT . seems they missed each other. 4 days ago the anthias stopped eating , i removed her and put her in the qt with the Tang (old buddy. ) didnt work she died anyway. then the tang stopped eating NORI right after that?? i did not run carbon, but did routine water changes every 6 days. a hang on the back dual filter with floss in back of filter reservoir. i setup the QT tank 3 weeks ago and used the 2 pieces of floss from my DT sump, to get the bacteria in the QT tank, also added 6 pieces of LR for her to hide. tank parameters stayed ammonia =zero/ nitrates only got up to 10ppm , PH= 8.2 8.4 Salinity 1.025 1.026. Temp= 78 deg f. I fed her in the morning and in the evening , nori in the evening. WTH did I do wrong or did these 2 buddies grief themselves to death after i separated the?

This worked for me and I successfully have added a powder blue, a purple, a blonde naso, a tomini, a desjardini sailfin, an achilles, a vlamingi and a clown tang in a 300. I added the Achilles last, if you can believe that!

I have a tomini, achillies, powder blue, regal, and a purple in mine. They seem to be fine

Do the pics taped up really work?

Worked every time for me. I usually tape multiple pics of the fish I'm buying to the glass for a week and then introduce the live one with the pics still attached a week after, then gradually remove them. I introduced an achilles that way and we all know how easy they get ich!

Have a powder blue, purple tang, and a blonde Naso in a 125 with a 150 gal sump and ETSS skimmer. All added in that order. Just added the blonde today. What I found works for me is a 12"x20" tall mirror to one side of the tank and the Tangs are so into their reflections, the new addition is left alone. Left the mirror up for a day or two and all was good for me.

I have a Naso, Purple, Yellow, Sailfin, Hippo, Orange Shoulder would love to add a powder blue, but I think it is too late. I do the cut out pictures and add a mirror to one end of the tank and it's all good. Added the yellow last. Bubba

It can be compatible but I would go lights out for 2 days and the 3rd by monitoring to reduce stress on both fish. The dominant is calm and doesn't notice the newb as much and the newby gets a chance to explore and get comfy. Choose the days by your time schedule to better benefit the fish.
Next I would feed a little ALOT and change the water accordingly with the lights out to once again reduce stress. Same shape and feeding habits will cause aggression so please take these steps and more importantly the time to monitor the fish

Powder blue. Bullet proof once you get it established but it is very delicate at first so BOO!
Really buddy just read up and make a SAFE HAPPY home for what makes you HAPPY as well.

Me thinks that before I even thing seriously about adding a powder blue that my Orange shoulder will have to be adopted out. How big should I let the orange shoulder get before graduating him up to a larger tank? Bubba

Thant question is best answered by the aggression and more importantly the health of the orange. I will of course by him from ya for the 180 public tank that is finally on the right track

He shows absolutely no aggression he just looks a little larger than all the other fish in the tank and i just wondered if there was a rule about how long a fish can get before he needs to move on up. Bubba

Well Smoothie I have been reading. Seems that not all things are exactly correct in the articles. These articles are based on known facts but don't always cover the variables, that's why I'm asking here from past experiences. then again what works for one person doesn't always worrk for the other?? i honestly believe all fish have their own species habits, and can have all kinds of personalities. Thanks for the reply Buddy
