HI y'all I think this will be my first post I've been able to find the help I've needed just by searching I want to thank all of you for that. And in advance for everybodys help.
so here goes my question
this is my first summer so it got hot from 79 to 86 degrees last thursday when it hit like 90 outside i freaked out so I ran out and bought a chiller
a JBJ 1/15 hp
list of setup
I have a second hand 34 gal salona cube
stock return pump feeding 1/15 chiller & 15 watt uv
maxie jet 1200 for return pump
mp 10 powerhead
ai sole leds
eshopps nano skimmer
3 month old colbalt 150 watt heater btw the first thing i checked by unplugging
so last night i woke up at like 4am to look at the tank (it was only 64 degrees in my house and the chiller was running tank at 82 I have the chiller set at 78 )
oh and just cleaned all the pumps last saturday
if I forgot anything let me know
Again thank you for the help in advance

OH yeah I"m still running the glass lid could that be the problem I wouldn't think so not with the chiller
but im going to try it tonight I'll post up if it helps but I still feel like the tank is making a lot of heat

I took the glass lid of and it still went up 2/10 of a degree in 30 min? should i just put 2 new high end pumps in?

Edit: BTW thank you for the advice

Edit: oh and it's 72 degrees in my house

Edit: tank temp 78.6

I would say the next I would check us the pumps. Take it out and put it in a bucket if water and watch the temp. If it goes up you know that's the culprit. I didn't think a maxi jet put off the much heat though

I'm running a window unit as well as main AC
my tanks stay under 80

The UV will add some heat to the system.

I know but it will go for 76 to 79 in the matter of hours
im unplugging the skimmer this morning we'll see what happens Oh yeah I already tried the heater
temps are still on a rollercoaster
thanks everyone

Clip on fans over the water helps cool via evaporation. Will require more top off water though. Either do in sump or main tank.

I agree, my first thought is there has to be a problem with your chiller.:fish:

On a tank that size the chiller should keep it cool.

Are you running your chiller and heater on a controller of just direct plug into the outlet? If its a direct plug, I would check to make sure the heater isn't faulty and getting stuck on.

That was my fist thought. Just the smallest bump could mess up a good heater and a nice tank.

I always run heaters and chillers on a controller no matter what. The only heaters I have directly plugged into an outlet is the one in my mixing station, and I only turn that on the morning of my water change day.

Now I'm starting to wonder If I am going to need a small chiller. I guess it is good to think ahead anyway. who here thinks that they are not necessary during the warmer months, and how big of a deal is a temp swing of a few degrees?

I think I can keep my room under 80F, at least I hope so

This was the main factor for my purchase of a controller. I had a heater nuke my first cube. And didn't know it till it was to late.

I have a $15 fan in my sump and a $10 fan on top of my canopy. They are hooked up to my controller and keep the tank at the desired 77.9 degrees.

My 180 use to swing by 4 degrees a day prior to my controller. All corals seem to be fine and I thought very healthy. But now that I only swing 1 degree a day, my coral looks so much better, better pylon extension and more full looking. May be in my head but I'm a firm believer (plz insert joke here). Lol
