I was under the impression that all True Percs were wild caught.

I have a shop telling me that they have tank raised True Percs....

Isn't the only qualification of a false perc the fact that it's tank raised??? Or am I missing something here.....

thx.

interesting.....thanks.....

yeah the ones at the store did not lok like that...they had more black but they were also bigger which makes sense.....

All I know is that I want two clowns that look like the ones in that POTM on the home page.....

True Percs are Amphiprion Percula, where False Percs are Amphiprion Ocellaris (not sure on spelling). The Ocellaris look like Perculas, but there are some differences in the amount of black as well as the number of dorsal spines (can't recall which is which at the moment).

Both species are available tank raised.

Because of its name, Amphiprion percula, it is the True Percula Clownfish.
Typically orange in color with three white bars, with the middle bar having a forward-projecting bulge.
Has 10 (rarely 9) dorsal spines.
Usually has jet black margins of varied widths around its white bars, often of which can be rather thick.
Distribution of this species in nature: Northern Queensland and Melanesia (New Guinea, New Britain, New Ireland, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu).

Typically orange in color with three white bars, with the middle bar having a forward-projecting bulge.
Has 11 (rarely 10) dorsal spines.
The spinous (anterior) part of the dorsal fin is taller.
May have no black margins present, but most often has thin, never thick black margins around its white bars.
Distribution of this species in nature: Andaman and Nicobar Islands (Andaman Sea), Indo-Malayan Archipelago, Philippines, northwestern Australia; coast of Southeast Asia northwards to the Ryukyu Islands.

lol....so in other words...I probably wont be able to tell the difference.

The deep black is what I love about the trues Ive seen so if I get that Im happy......

Yes, there are tank raised percula's. The easiest way to tell the difference in a perc and an ocellaris is the eyes. The percula has an orange Iris
