And my tank temps are almost 84 F and its not even spring yet...

You guys think I should get a portable AC unit to cool down the room, thus chilling the tank a bit? Ambient room temps are probably anywhere from 77 - 80 during the day, and I have 3 x 250 halides, and a computer running in the room. The computer CPU's and GPU's are both Water cooled, therefore it dumps more heat into the room as well.

Option A - In room AC.

Option B - Aquarium chiller and deal with the heat.

Advice?

If you install a chiller it would be best to put it in another room or even better outside. Cause if you leave it in the same room it will have to work harder.

can you drop one of the 250's and maybe do a 150 or 125MH?
a celling fan might do wonders. i know mine helps a great deal in keeping my tanks cool in the warmer months.
do you have fans above your tank in the canopy?
moving the computer will help too. mine puts off serious heat as well.

Have you looked into using fans? I can cool my temp several degrees with just a few computer fans. The added benefit is I can supplement calcium with my kalk reactor more than if the evap was lower (like it was pre-fan).

I was having the same problem... the room where my tank is located also has a computer in it, and even with AC, my tank water temps where pushing 82 degrees. I installed a window unit in that room, and having it programed to run during the hours that the metal halides are going.

That AC unit has dropped the temp in the room substantially, and has my tank running around 79 degrees with the MH on.

Was initially thinking the room AC as well...2 birds and all...

Yep, I would go with a room AC. Buying the window unit was substantially cheaper than going with a chiller

I bought a chiller anticipating this same problem, but I am concerned about the heat a chiller generates

You can plumb them outside ????
