O dear lord....

That show is like a train wreck, as much as I disagree with what the yankees do, I can't help but watch.

Half the time the only thing I can think about is how hard those tanks would be to clean.

I wont bother trying their products, nor will I ever recommend them.

I WILL still watch their show, and continue to make fun of everything that they do.

Honestly, "Tanked" and the other reality aquarium show (that did the Miami Marlins base line aquariums) both rub me the wrong way. I feel that, in many cases, their approach does not represent conscientious aquarists or benefit this hobby. All of us in this hobby have a responsibility to consider the well-being of our inhabitants and provide for their long-term success. In my opinion, both companies involved with these two reality shows loose sight of this.

Good Gawd! both of those shows are put out for entertainment value and to turn a $ nothing more. They both build some incredible tanks that 99% of us couldn't afford nor would want to afford and as for cleaning, if you can afford their tanks you aren't the ones cleaning them.

Well I can pick flies equally. On Fish Tank Kings for that baseball stadium they were all excited about having captive-raised Porkfish, which are native to the Western Atlantic (ie Florida waters). So I was thinking, "Cool - biotope tank!". Francis had his thong in a bunch about the artificial corals being "right" for the region and stuff...

Then a few scenes later, they're all excited about their recent shipment of Pacific fish, and show a Lunare Wrasse, Flagfin Angel and others.... which they placed in that tank. So it wasn't a biotope after all, so all the other fuss and drama was just that... fuss and drama.

OH and they didn't even build that tank themselves - as they mentioned, they outsourced the fabrication to JAPAN. :( At least the ATM guys build their own tanks.

Yep, they are both just "entertainment". They are definitely NOT education, at least in my opinion.

Andei

Used to be Discovery Channel was nothing but good educational shows. Then Am. Chopper popped up and the whole channel went "Reality". You then had to go to TLC (which used to stand for "The Learning Channel") Now TLC is just like the rest. Only good educational shows on TV are Ask This Old House and New Yankee Workshop.

Haven't see Wood Wrights. Norm is great in a shop with all the right tools but Tommy rules out in the field. I would give my left arm to spend a year working with that guy. He has more tricks than Penn and Teller.

If I may play devils advocate for a minute here, the ATM boys do appear to pull some crazy stunts but I have read interviews with them and they explain that it's all edited for TV. I have friended Brett and Wayde as well as ATM on Facebook and if you look at their pictures of their "regular tanks" by that I mean more normal sized and stocked tanks that most of us would drool over, they really do a hell of a job. But that stuff doesn't make it to tv because we would be the only ones interested in watching a 150 gallon FOWLR or reef build show that they stretched out over a few episodes and took the time to explain true fish and or coral selection and size but EVERYBODY including me wants to see them build a tank over a bed for the furniture stores new mattress display or one of my favorites the whiskey barrel tank on a stand made out of beer kegs with a functioning beer tap (to bad it's miller lite) and I also believe there are fish people that are not hobbiest like my wife for example she loves looking at the tank and even sometimes going and picking out a new fish to go in it but when it comes to researching things for it or maintaining it or any of that she looses interest so she is like a lot of the customers that ATM is trying to service meaning she wants a fish tank and enjoys it but doesn't care how she got it or what it takes to have it. It's like making anything take this iPad I'm typing on right now I don't know or care how it was made or what is in it or anything I just like having it, some people are the same way with aquariums. I know it's hard to think that way because we all LOVE this hobby and spend TONS of time money and effort into it but for some people a fish tank is just another piece of furniture and to us it's a work of art!

Just my 2 cents worth

Oh and p.s. the fish guy on Fish Tank Kings is a royaol pain in the @$$ I can't stand that guy haha

Forgive me for stepping on toes, but an iPad doesnt need to be fed, or have its water changed, and if it dies o well.

This "hobby" that we love, deals with live things. If I'm understanding you correctly, it doesn't matter how many animals die, as long as we have an entertaining show to watch and a pretty fish tank?

Hmm, if people want big fish tanks but don't want to LEARN how to care for them, that's what public aquariums are for.

Ripped these shows are for intertainment only, not for education which is why I posted the GOOD GAWD. All you posters trying to analyze what these shows are or are not saying reminds me of the stoned out idiots of the 60's and 70's trying analyze what John and Paul were saying in their songs. These programs make some outrageous tanks that make for some decent entertainment for people and they aren't meant to be educational if they were they wouldn't be a hit.

...but Paul is dead.

Lol the truth is that the "stoned out idiots" are listening to "stone out idiot" musicians. No one knows what those songs mean.

Here come ol' flat-top...

On FB they post 100 posts a day to watch their show, and now they're pushing Petco.

I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, after speaking with Brett Raymer in person last year, but I'm just not seeing anything but a flash in the pan cash grab :(

+100% I think it is the best show ever. If I win the lottery ATM is the one that will build my next tank. I said this before it is made for TV. And anyone would do the same thing for the money they make. Lets see what would be more entertaining to watch... Joe the tank builder from Atlanta. Next episode : watch the next 4 weeks as this tank goes through a algae bloom out break. Or

Edit: Or: the sky is the limit with tanked.
