Temp too High!

I saw a thread recently surveying reef tank temps, sadly I cannot seem to find it.

I added the last piece of equipment last night, a UV sterilizer and when I got home tonight my temp was at 81.5 degrees. Needless to say I unplugged it because the green area on the thermometer stops at 80. The temp is almost back to 80 now and everyone seems fine.

Anyone know how much heat a 48 inch T5 actually puts off? I'm wondering if I can run the UV at night when the light is out and stay in a safe temp range. I have a Reef Blue brand light if that matters. The long term plan is to buy Kessil lights and I believe they put off less heat but that is several months away.

I was thinking about that mystery box, does it really help? I know that some people use chillers, I'm a novice and thought those were used to counteract really hot lighting and don't know a thing about them,

My wife may not like the fan noise. No wait, she is pregnant and will hate the fan noise! I'm baffled that a UV raised the temp in a 90 gallon a couple of degrees.

Edit: No problems at 83 Grouper? That's why I tried to find the temp poll thread. I've always just kept it in the green range on the thermostat that maxes out at 80 degrees.

I can't lose the lids right now, the canopy is not on the set up because of the T5 light. If I use it the T5 will be crammed up against wood on both ends. When I add the Kessil lights I'll be able to though, they will suspend and the canopy itself will help to contain jumpers.

Are special fans made for this type of thing? I assume the best option is some sort of clip on model for the sump.

Edit: I did open the front of the lids though. :)

I run 2 of these in my canopy:

Wired to an ac plug and good to go. They are a tad noisy, but they do move some air!

dave arent you forgetting about the tunze aquawind? http://www.marinedepot.com/Tunze_Aquawind_Aquarium_Fan_Cooling_Fans_for_Aquarium_Lighting-Tunze-TZ8611-FILTACAF-vi.html">http://www.marinedepot.com/Tunze_Aquawind_Aquarium_Fan_Cooling_Fans_for_Aquarium_Lighting-Tunze-TZ8611-FILTACAF-vi.html</a>

but it is much more than i would pay for this application. you can get a clip on desk fan from walmart for about 15 bucks and it will do the same job and maybe even better. dirk at the pet shop here in clarkesville uses one on his 200 gallon system and it dropped several degrees in a day i want to say about 4 or 5 degrees f.

I use a clip on fan over my 40g breeder that's in the garage (talk about hot!) and without the fan, the tank runs at 81-82. With the fan running on low, it will drop the temp by 5-6 degrees easily. Now the downside of using a fan is evaporation increases substantially. So be ready with an ATO otherwise you'll have dramatic salinity changes.

My 180 is in a room with a ceiling fan and it has large water turnover so I struggled to even get it to 78 degrees.

I'm definitely going to pick up a clip on fan today and see how much that helps. I'm also going to look into making or buying screen so I can remove some glass too.
