My 8 gal. nano is running at a constant 75.4 F and i was wondering if this temp is alright. I would prefer to not run a heater as i just had one malfunction and it was not a pretty sight. Thanks for the help.

75.4 should be fine. Most reefers, IME, tend to keep their tanks at about 78 or so. Mine is usually at 77-78. Most temps I have seen posted are between 75-82. Prolonged temperatures higher or lower than that might be an area of concern.
There are very low wattage heaters made or small tanks. At the very least, with your tank being on the lower end of the temp scale, you might look at a digital thermometer with an alarm on it, like this:
