After going to Thanh's home and envying his Achilles tang, I wondered if the adding pictures to the tank method would work. I thought it through for awhile, because I didn't want to sacrifice a fish for the mere notion of proving myself wrong. I had good results with this method before, so I decided to go for it. I was worried because I already have an abundance of tangs in my tank. For those of you who don't know, I have the following tanks in my 300 gal tank: a blond naso, vlamingi, purple, red sea sailfin, clown, tomini, african regal and chevron tang. I got the achilles from Rit on Friday and had already printed up achilles pics of different sizes and had placed them on the tank glass a week ago. When I got home I drip acclimated him for about 2 hours and then put him in my sump as I wanted to monitor him and I had to go to work. When I got home, I took him out and put him in the tank with the lights out. Almost immediately, the powder blue and clown went to bother him and I was like, here we go again. I left him in there because although they were chasing him, they weren't nipping at the fins as it usually happens. I watched for a little longer and he was fine. The next morning I was expecting to find the achilles nipped at but to my surprise, he was fine. It's been 2 days and he seems to be happy, occasionally nipping at the algae on the glass wall. So far, so good. The method is still working. I will keep you guys posted.

Thats a lot of tanks in a 300 gallon tank. Personally I prefer fish, but what ever floats your boat.

Get an acrylic box and hang it in ur tank. Put new fish in. Works a lot better than a picture and u can keep an eye on the fish as well

I tried the acrylic box one time and the fish looked super stressed. I don't know if the Achilles would have survived that. Haven't had success taking a pic as he won't sit still.

Day 4 and the little guy is still doing well.

Man, my camera sucks!

I find that my fish like it when I read the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition to them. It really relaxes them and helps them sleep!

+10000000000000000

Edit: Or at least, I don't notice any stress in the fish while reading it. :-)

I was told that the Red sea sailfin would be a problem but they seem to be buddies. You can see him in the pic peeking out of the rocks.

ditto

Well tonight was a bit of a downer because he is starting to show first signs of the dreaded Ich. He is still eating and picking at the algae on the walls and rocks. I hope it goes away soon.

Day 7 and he's doing great! I still can't believe I have a healthy Achilles with all these other menacing tangs. Thanks to Rit for providing me witha healthy specimen and to Thanh386 for convincing me that there's no such thing as ich coming out every time on newly added Tangs.
