I've been using Salifert and know that they and Elos are considered the best by many. I need to reorder some test kits and was wondering what the preference was from those who have used BOTH brands.

Just started using a few that i got and i must say im very happy with them. I get the same as a API but i feel secure using it.

Used both, the results were the same when I switched between the 2, I prefer Salifert though. IMO they're easier to use and the colors are easier for me to read.

I gotta go Salifert. Elos lost my faith (though the world seems to love them) when my Phospate kit not only read zero when Salifert did not, but the Elos reads actually "whiter" than zero, if that makes any sense. When I read the card I can see the "zero" area as darker (by a tiny amount) than the sample. It literally looks like a vial of RO water.

either way, you should be fine....I used to use Salifert, until it had that Alk issue a number of years ago and Habib was run out of RC...

Elos.

Elos.

That sounds like some serious drama... What kind of problems did they have with the alk tests?

they were crazy off.......one kit said 7, and another said like 11.....he even sent me (many others) a new kit from Holland with a reference solution, but to no avail as now we had a third or a fourth number. It was back in 2007...He was trying to help us and defend his kits....

I've been using sali the entire time I've been reefing (6 months) and have had great success with it. Haven't used the other, but anyone trying to decide between the two I can say sali won't let you down.

Personally, never used elos, although I have heard good things. Salifert here.

I just picked up he new Red Sea Reef Foundation Pro test kit. They sell a combo Ca, KH and Mag test kit. I got mine at PureReef for about $45 after ARC discount. I bought this because I have heard they are very accurate. Red Sea makes D&D Test kits, so that should hopefully speak to their quality as well. I'm using it as a double check against my Saliferts, but if they are accurate I may use them exclusively.

I checked the Salifert KH Reference solution with the Salifert and the Red Sea KH kits, and the Red Sea was actually closer to the Salifert reference KH than the Salifert was!

If you think about it let me know your final results/decision.
