OK all I have one suggestion/reccommendation for Red Sea but I wanted to kind of get a consensus of the most popular test kits folks are using. As well, which items (tests) to spend the money on? It seems as though several are available by each manufactuer for all sorts of tests and being new IDK which ones are essential. Thanks in advance,

For phates use either Elos above or Hach

General use hobby kits Elos and or Salifert

I was not happy at all with the Red Sea. Elos is good but watch the expiration dates. Seachem seems to be good as well. Now, having said all that, I hate them all. LOL

Lol absolutely agree! I have to read the instructions every time. It should be easier by now but I hate it so much that it won't stick.

i use seachem test kits and they give good results. but as rich and saltbubbles have said testing is a pain in the butt so i rarely do it lol. but whatever you do stay away from API test kits. i have had good ones in the past but they are known to be very unreliable and there are pleanty of horror stories of people testing with api and something will be either fine or completely out of whack and then they get it tested at the lfs and its completely diffrent. so watch out for api
