Just wanted to post my updates on the battle of HA that I reported almost a month ago. As many of you know my frustrations were at the highest level and I was ready to shut the tank down and start over with it. The good Doc along with several others in ARC gave me a lead to raise my Mag to 1800 using kent's Tech M which I sort of followed but changed brands.
Here is the update:
I went to purchase the Kent Tech M at the store but it was not stocked. I spoke with a reputable person whom referred me to Brightwell Magnesion stating it was basically the same thing. Since I was desperate at this point, I decided to try it...hey, what could it hurt?
That was 3 almost 4 weeks ago. I took it slow and finally as of today reaching 1850 Mag level. I have noticed that as of around the 1650 mark I have had yellowing/browning of the HA and removing it manually became easier such as plucking or in some cases, turned to dust on contact. I have experienced some minimal growth but not as accellerated as in the past. Most of the rock is now clear of any HA except a few small spots. My back glass still has it's share of off colored green HA. My mag float removes most but still a few tough areas. My power head still has some attached fairly well but it is slowly going away.
I have lost some corals in the process due IMO to the HA taking over on them. It's a sacrifice I have to make. Nem's, clams, fish are all fine...no side effects. Some corals still a bit hesitant to open.
I will hold it at this level for about 3 weeks and give more updates along the way.
This was a good test to see if the Brightwell product worked as I have had many inquirys about my results. the war is not over yet but I can finally see some light coming from the end of the tunnel.
Thank you all who have supported me through this process...I do not wish it on anyone.
