The idea controller?

Or the power source/transformer has a built in relay. I'm thinking it must, because it was definitely built as a single unit with the pump. (I've never seen a pump that has a ac plug, if not). Given that, I assume a company would build a relay into the power source, or at least I'd hope so.

I think I'm gong to get the Apex Jr as well. It is wireless and can cumunicate with the iPhone/iPad allowing you to program it to send you msg's/warnings and check on most everything. It seems to be expandable in every area to meet future needs at a good starting price. A EB8 as standard would be nice! I'm right there with you on electronically illiterate and hate to read instruction manuals. Keep us posted please.

Well I found a great deal on an aquacontroller 3 (not an apex). It does connect to the internet (which is huge to me), but is less expandable and doesn't have the same control options with some of the high-end equipment out there (vortechs, leds, etc). However, I don't need that at the time and it should handle everything I want to do for the next year or so at least (I have to wait to graduate school before upgrading). The only thing the AC3 setup I'm purchasing is lacking is a 3rd mechanically-switched outlet (b/c I want to auto dose calc, alk, and mag). I've read a little about adding more pull (like a small light) to the electrically-switched outlet (through a surge protector) with the dosing pump to get enough pull. I'll probably try that as a patch to get me through my vacation and then purchase a eb4 or eb8.

I researched my ATO more, and found it on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130382207901&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123">http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130382207901&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123</a>
It is made my AquaVim? I've never heard of them and I cannot find info regarding whether or not the power adapter, as they call it, has a built in relay. I emailed the eBay seller last night and I'm waiting for a reply. Does anyone have experience with this ATO???

How much Magnesium are you dosing? Using the BRS 2-part solution, the Magnesium dose is 20ml per 1 gallon of Alk and 1 gallon of Calcium. Unless your consumption is really high, it doesn't seem like you need to dose Magnesium daily. The BRS instructions even say you can add all 20ml after you've used up the gallon of the other two, or add it over the duration. Unless your consumption is really high, or you're going on vacation for a long time, you should be able to half-dose the Magnesium right before you leave and right when you get back. Your tank will probably not notice.

Very good point. I end up dosing mag about 1/6th the amount of alk and calc. I'll just dose a little heavy before leaving rather than setup a ghetto rig - deal with doing it right when I get back. Thanks a lot for the help everyone! I've only been a member for a month or so and the community one ARC has been extremely helpful!

Just a couple clarifications to some if the info in this thread.

None of the current Apex controllers have WiFi built in, you must add a wireless game adapter.

All current Neptune controllers (Apex series) have ethernet built in, no add-on module needed. The AquaController III also had ethernet built in.

A USB WiFi dongle will not work with Apex controllers. None of them have USB ports, the ports that look like USB are AquaBus ports and NOT USB ports.

Digital Aquatics seems to be at a standstill as a company, and if I were buying new controllers, I would buy Apex. I have two RKEs now, and they work fine for my needs, but DA has not come out with promised replacements or new products to replaced ones with known issues (salinity probe and SL@ module, to name a couple) or seems very responsive to anyone's CS inquiries, and I really wonder how much longer they will exist as a company.

I plan on purchasing a wireless gaming adapter for my aquacontroller 3. Does anyone know if I need a specific one?
