i love the actinic look, but iwas curious as to whether or not a sunpod 2x150w would still give me the blue color effect, and which bulbs i should use.

i just don't have the money to buy an AIO fixture and was thinking of doing a retro but i dont know if iwant to build a canopy for my current tank considering it's only 12" wide.

I think you'd get what you want if you use 20K bulbs. Radiums are nice and blue.

sweet! the guy i'm buying it from has it setup with 2 6month old 20k radiums haha.

Dave beat me to it. I think the same. I have the 2x150watt Sunpod with Radiums 20k. Love it. I was goin to build a canopy, but decided on the sunpod because of the sleek look and the ventilation.

also, will i notice a major difference in par/lumens if i have a 4xt5 right now??

My 50 is 36"x18"x18". I def covers laterally, not sure about the depth. How deep is a 45 tall? 24"? 28"?

Im really not sure about par/lumens. I get great growth from the SPS at the top levels. I don't have a clam or any light loving corals on the sandbed so im prob no help there. You can check out my tank with the link on my signature. Its sort of a timeline of the past year Ive had the Sunpod.

i'm not actually sure what the sunpod comes with now that i think about it.

i want to stay away from magnetic ballasts right??

lol, i just started a thread about this very subject. I didn't want to clog up your thread. Maybe we can both learn something, cuz I have no idea.:confused2:

However, I do know the Sunpod is on HQI ballast...Im assuming that means magnetic from reading Ares's post....would love to learn more.

I think Nanotuners.com will have (or does have, haven't looked) an LED addition that fits in the slots like the legs on a sunpod. There was a guy on NR making them but he's going through Nanotuners now. It's basically a few high powered LEDs that provide some blue for the actinics. Don't know if it would be enough for what you want, but might be worth looking into if you still want the sunrise/sunset effect.
