I don't have a controller by choice, however this little thing looks like something that I would definitely get.

Does anyone know I'd this is a freestanding unit? And do the probes come with this unit?

It just sounds perfect for me...

Lifeguard by digital Aquatics around 2 bills...

Will it send me an email alert? Who is going to carry it local?

Thanks!

Comes with ph and temp and seems like it is its own unit with built in wifi

I don't know about this Ralph. I have three RKL and an RKE going on my various tanks. Wouldn't it make more sense just to add a net module to an existing system for $119 than this for $200?

This seems llike the DA equivalent of the Seneye system, with the exception of the web based feature. I have just never seen the value of being able to monitor my system on the net, but this is based on me not traveling a lot and being away from my systems too often. In other words, for me, there are not too many tank emergencies that I could not deal with just as quickly as someone monitoring their system on the net because I am not out of town too often.

For me, for $199 shipped, I would purchase this, which is an RKL head unit, PC4, SL1 module and pH probe. Add a net module later for $119. That seems a better use of money than paying $219 (regular price) for the Lifeguard.

I'm confused, as I do not have any controller right now at all.....none.
For me, wouldn't it make sense as a warning?

What he's saying is for 100.00 more give or take some change u have a full controller instead of just a monitoring alert system.

I can see where this would appeal to some but others would say im already spending 200.00 might as well spe n d a l I l more and get a rkl,

Sorry Ralph, I was assuming you had a controller. Would you use the net feature of the Lifeguard, or would this just be something you would look at the display at home?

Just seems that at that price point, an RKL controller like I linked to would be preferable and do so much more than the LifeGuard. I've never worried too much about water level, and for $20 you can add a float switch to alert you of a low water level on an RKL controller.

So for $220 you can get an RKL, PC4, SL1, Ph probe, temp and float switch, and do all that a Lifeguard can do and expand to do even more (except the Net feature of the Lifeguard).

Main thing is do you want the web functionality of just getting alerts regarding pH, water level and temperature that the Lifeguard has and the RKL does not? I'd rather spend the money and get the increased functionality of an RKL myself, but I'm sure the Lifeguard would do what it says well.

If the web function is not a big deal to you, an RKL controller can give you all the info the Lifeguard can and more. It can control your lights, pumps, auto top-off, chiller, automated dosing, calcium reactor, heaters. I have a float switch installed on my in-sump protein skimmer that turns the skimmer off if the cup gets too full. All this stuff is possible with a controller as well as everything a Lifeguard does.
