Ordered a mr aqua 12 gal long.. And it should be here by Friday... Gonna use the subcurrent filter and a viaaqua titanium heater.. Hope to have sand and water in it by Monday at the latest... And I've also got a new pump coming for my moms tank. Hers is an AGA corner bow rr.. Hope to have sand and water in it this weekend.. And just maybe if I have enough time next week my 72 now will be running too.....

I love the low profile of those tanks. Any idea on how you are going to stock it?

I have no idea yet.. I'm still debating on what lights to use.. Gonna go LEDs I think.. since it's 12gallons and 36 inches long.. I think I'm gonna use par bulbs so it will have an open look...

Total newbie question: On these Mr. Aquas, do you use a cover? If so, does it come with it or do you buy it separately?

They only come as a tank.. No top, and they don't offer one either... But I'm thinking about have a glass one cut for it... And figuring out a way to space it so it can breathe...

i wouldn't use glass, it'll raise the heat in the tank. i have a 18" cube from Mr. Aqua and im going to do the screen lid on it. i have clear netting to use to allow light to enter without any problems

DEVEST8R-
Mr. Aqua's got some really neat smaller tanks...I think my favorite's their ~12 gallon 3' long one. Is that the one you're talking about? If so, maybe getting three smaller panes of glass cut to 12" x and using some soft silicone bumper feet (look at Target or Lowe's) to hold it 1/16 or so off the rim without sliding would work. Don't forget to get the edges bevelled and have a small hole cut for easy opening and air circulation.

HiImSean's got a point about the mesh top and keeping that rimless look...on several sites there's mesh covers that look pretty good, usually that rely on velcro or clips at the tank's corners. And then there's others that really look...special. It's not my preference, but it can be done well and is visually striking.

I guess it depends on your concerns and personal taste. Controling temp/salinity swings, preventing carpet surfers or all of the above? On my 9 gallon aquastyle the glass top seems to just cut down on heat loss, rather than fostering heat buildup (plus it keeps top-off needs to something sane for something that small).

Yup that's the one.. It's actually 35" and some change... It has water and sand in it now... Thinking about using an Mp10 and 3 Orphek ml-7's "par30" bulbs.. Should be a killer setup...

Not sure if your a DIY person, but Pure Reef makes and size mesh top. Kept everyone in my tank and allowed max light to penetrate.
