So I noticed white spots on both my watchman and clown gobys this morning.

Can someone please confirm? If in fact Ich, is there a non copper solution that I can use to treat my reef tank?

I go on vacation in 4 days so I need to jump on this ASAP.

Sorry for the blurryness (thats a word :) )

Thanks Steve

Edit: has anyone tried Triple Sulfa Tablets by Aquarium Science with any luck? reading about it seems to make it sound reef safe?

looks like ich to me, but I'm not a Doctor..

Focus/Metro mixed in with their food will be the way to go.. (most LFS's carry it, I know that Marine Designs has it but I bet that Warehouse has it too..

Thanks Ron!

Edit: looks like Focus/Metro will work from inside out by ingestion. What about the stuff floating in the tank?

Looks like ich to me too. I agree you should use metronidazole and focus to treat ich. It definitely worked for me; I fed my fish medicated food for about a month.

It is ich. And there are FAR better treatments that metro, but if you insist on a "reef safe" method, that's the best. Bear in mind, it relies on a lot of "what ifs". You have to hope the fish infests enough meds to defeat the parasite (by dosage) and it doesn't do anything to treat the tank, so, if ANY fish doesn't eat the adequate dose, the parasite will remain.

floating in the tank?

not sure what that would be (unless it's the spots, having fallen off the fish)...

I've never dealt with that issue..

oh, and get a UV sterilizer... run it on the system 24/7 (something like a turbo twist 9W or 18W)

what would the other options be? (reef safe or not)?

Metro and Focus worked like a charm for me. Don't treat the water though. Treat the food with it.

Remove the fish to a treatment tank, treat with copper, paraguard, formalin...there are a lot of proven treatments. Sadly, I can't recommend ANY reef safe treatments. I feel none work adequately. Aside from a BIG UV unit. Small ones won't work. See the UV sizing thread.

he's got a relatively small tank.. (under 40gal I believe)

I didn't think there was really anything besides focus/metro that you could do IN a reef tank..

I guess this is where having a quarantine/hospital setup would be perfect..

After going and talking to PURE I have decided to treat with Dr.G's Anti-Parasitic Frozen Fish Food.

They seem to have heard people having luck with it, and with me going on vacation it will be easier to portion out and put daily dose of food and to a day of the week pil container and have the sitter do that instead of messing with anything else.

Thanks for all the replies and Ron was correct its only a 29g

Bear in mind, anti-parasitic feeds are just like metronidazole. It is very difficult to accurately dose. Youll be treating the fish that eats enough, and not the fish that dont, and not the tank.

I have heard of people dropping salinity way down very slow and keep at that point for period of time not 100% sure. I think it could be hear say as well. Please post if others have heard of this as well.

Yup... but not in a tank with coral or inverts.

hyposalinity....

i think that's more of a last resort... it can put an incredible stress on the fish..
