Think I Just Nuked my Tank

Jon,
Glad to hear things are getting better. Keep us posted.

Jenn,
Did you have any problems with inverts, or was it strictly the fish?

You can read my whole torrid story from 2003 here: http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/f71/flatworm-exit-so-far-so-good-16537.html?highlight=Flatworm+eXit">http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/f71/flatworm-exit-so-far-so-good-16537.html?highlight=Flatworm+eXit</a>

Initially I thought it was just fine... but the progression goes on.

I don't recall losing any corals or inverts (I need to re-read my own thread though). I do remember losing a Marine Betta, Foxface, Purple Tang, male Banggai Cardinal and others...

2 Fromias died during that... (I'm still reading/reliving the nightmare!)

Brings back sad memories... I lost some great fish.

It should also be noted that most of my fish that died, had been out of the treated tank - once my Foxface went MIA, I tore everything down and removed the rest of the fish to my quarantine system (in the shop)... I think whatever toxic damage happened, was a done deal because the fish died 2-4 days post-treatment, and after being removed from the tank.

Sorry - didn't mean to hijack the thread... when Jon mentioned the smell, it brought it all back to me!

He likely will, I didn't mean to be an alarmist. The infestation I had was frightening. I waited way too long.

Well.....came home today and everything is happy and accounted for (fish, corals, clams, inverts) other than my peppermint shrimp that I only see every few weeks anyways. Full polyps extension and good colors like nothing ever happened. It appears disaster averted.

Moral of this story: If you EVER see ANY FW's.....treat immediately because the toxins released by these critters are VERY strong and the longer they reproduce....the worse the impacts will be. I think Jenn's experience proves that.

Another interesting tidbit after this treatment.....skimmate gets a reddish tint. A couple of people I talked to also got this response. No idea if it's from the FW's or the Flatworm Exit itself. While treatment was scary....I have to say it appears 110% effective. Not a sign in my tank.

I think the tint is from the flatworms themselves. I know when I did my thing, the Polyfilter turned about the color of the lid on a Reef Crystals bucket (crazy orange). Given the reddish color of the flatworms, I figure it was just "flatworm purée... (eww!)

Glad there's no disaster - it would have happened by now if it was going to.
