I recently picked up a tiger cowrie and would be interested to know if anyone else has one. I researched them and know there's a risk that they'll eat soft corals and other reef inhabitants as they grow. With that in mind I bought one for my "other" tank where I keep stuff that is "reef safe with caution." However, I really like watching it and would love to move it into my display tank. Does anyone have a tiger cowrie that they keep in their reef tank? Any thoughts on their general reef compatibility? I'd be willing to keep an eye out and remove it if I notice damage but I don't want to wake up one morning with entire colonies missing.

pics?

I saw that and it just adds to the confusion. Some folks say they are safe, some say with caution and others absolutely not. I may go ahead and move it up the the major leagues and keep an eye on it. Most reports center on zoas, GSP and other softies and it wouldn't be the end of the world if a few got eaten. At least then I'd have a first hand experience.

I had one in my tank for years and didn't have any issues.

Edit: It was in my 29g, before I upgraded.

I never 'saw' mine eat soft coral.

What I did see was corals occasionally getting run over and/or knocked over by the cowrie.
