I have a question that will come across as stupid especially from someone who has been in the hobby for 10 years now, I am finally going to get around to setting up the 150I purchased from bill last month but am not sure as to what the best way to proceed is.

I am changing out the 90 I have had running for 6 or more years now. The only other tank change I have made was from my original 55 to the 90. When I made that change I just moved everything over and added the additional water. I know there was a mini cycle but it was so mini I didn't even notice it.

My quandry this time is that I will be adding 50lbs of marcorock and several bags of additional sand, so would I be better to setup the 150 with just the new rock and sand and let it cycle or move over rock (that isn't covered with coral) and a good portion of the sand from the 90 and hopefully shorten the cycle time.

Are my concerns about just moving everything over since I will be adding dry rock and new sand justified or should I just make the swap and expect a mini cycle with hopes I don't lose anything more than a couple frags or small colonies.

I was worried about the same thing when I moved everything from my 60 cube over to the 93 cube. I really had no chose to wait so I had to make the jump. I added 60lb of new LS and use all the rock from my 60. I didn't add any old sand in either. I used about 40 gallon of old water and about 70 gallon new water. I was worried about a mini cycle as well but to my surprise. I didn't have one. At least I didn't notice it. I moved all my coral and fish over at the same time as well. Tank has been up for two weeks now and still didn't lose a single coral or fish. Everything f looks happy. Good luck with the transfer!

my concern is the addition of 50lbs of marcorock, I realize it is dry rock but still have concerns about cycling even with moving all rock, sand and water from the 90. by the way I have between 150lbs and 200lbs of rock in the 90
