I have a 210 gallon reef with 7 tangs. 2 triggers. 4 angels 7 anthias 6 damsels 3 clowns starry blenny harliquin basslet and a diamond goby. Is this to many fish or do you think I can add a few smaller fish?

Seems like a lot of fish to me. What angels do you have? Are they all young/small fish? If they are then you do have to remember that they will hopefully one day be older/larger fish.

Sounds like too much, but if your biofilter can handle it and they are not fighting, who can judge? I would consider what the current size of each fish and what the potential full growth ot those fish is before deciding to add more. Oh......welcome to the arc!

Having trouble uploading. The tangs are a 6" blonde naso 6" vlamingi 6 " regal 3 4-5" yellows and a 4" mole tang
The angels are flame rusty bicolor and a female spot breast.
The triggers are 7" Hawaiian black and 7" pink tail.

Edit: Lol Kole tang not mole tang

lol I was wondering what a mole tang was. Hope you can get the pics uploaded. I would love to see them.

I'm wanting to add a couple of wrasses. Any suggestions

Photobucket link, the best I can do on the ipad....

Edit: Does that work

You have many fish in there that can approach 1' in length. I think you are way overstocked with big fish. IMO, the two Nasos</em> need a longer tank (minimum 8').

Looks like both the blue tang and naso tang might be sick? Not sure from the photo. If so, please don't add fish.

I can't say anything, I have 6 tangs in my 120 plus 15 or so other fish. It all depends on your husbandry and water quality.

Tang police?

1. Can your filtration keep up?
2. are they fighting?
3. are they bumping into each other all the time?

If youre good on all 3 of those add more fish.

This is his wife, the picture posted isn't great...I'm working on uploading more. The triggers and one tang were potato chip thin when we got them.

The sump is quite large, he also runs a protien skimmer and uv sterilizer. Frequent water changes and the like.

No one is bumping, or even fighting. Can't say I can name the low guy on the totem pole, everyone seems happy.

Is if generally a rule of thumb that you only get fish that will fit in the tank as adults? I don't see a major issue removing fish if it's getting tight in there

Is a wrasse pair going to really push the limits if his filtration is keeping up with the current load? Anything we could add to help filter more? His birthday is coming up ;) I'm not opposed to buying him something to boost the tanks capabilities . every time we test the water it is spot on perfect. Corals are happy, clam thriving :)

Fish are 100% healthy I see the spots in the pics but not on the fish. The blonde naso is nicest I've seen he's starting to get streamers. We purchased him from Rit at Atlanta aquarium. The regal was out of an established tank for a couple years. And the clownfish I have are a PAIR of extreme mis bars and a skunk clown.

+10

I can fit 30 infants in an 8 x 8 room pretty easily. Fitting 30 1st graders in the same room is going to make for a bad situation. Fitting 30 adults in the same is going to make from very unhappy, miserable people. Just because it is okay today does not mean it is the best thing down the road. Just my opinion but you asked.

Totally agree. As hobbyists we should all strive for the optimum environment for our organisms not the minimum environment.

Tang police? If someone wants to call it that, fine. I will always advocate for what I believe is the best interest of the fish. IMO, we have a responsability to do what is right by them. I think that goes right along with the purpose of the club.

I agree 100%, but what is the problem with having a fish that is in a smaller system and have an exit plan as it grows? I mean i want a small tang, im going to start him in my small tank and as he out grows it i would put him in my large display. if i put him strait to my large fish i may never see him or my larger fish could tear him apart...this is hypothetical FYI.

I am not sure if you are asking my directly or just asking in general...I'll answer anyway. :) There is nothing wrong with getting fish that are currently small but which will grown much larger as long as there is a solid plan for re-homing them.

The problem is that many people say "I'm going to upgrade and get a bigger tank" then that time never comes- life gets in the way, people get laid off from work, people move to a place than can't accomodate a large tank. etc. Also many people think they can "donate" to a public aquarium when, in fact, most public aquaria won't take specimens from hobbyists. How many people realistically own a tank that can comfortably house a 10-12" fish?

I personally</em> think the best practice is to only purchase inhabitants that can currently be cared for with the equipment a person already has.

I have tangs and a juvenille large angel in my 150 right now. They will eventually end up in my 300g. :) When I can find the space I will get a 10' tank.

Well when you have benifits of a couple local fish stores you do the access to remove big fish when 3 years come. I'm adding a unicorn tomorrow my fish are perfectly fine. I posted this to see how other people stock there tank.
