toad stool

At the auction in Jan we picked up what turned out to be one of my favorites, the white toadstool. Anyhow, ususally for most of the day the tentacles are out but the past few days it hasn't bee throwing them and also doesn't look as white. I've tried to do a search on this so that I can look up it's care but can't find it on the internet. I can't remember who it came from so if anyone has any information or a link for me I would appreciate it. Thanks.

White is an odd color for any coral...

It's normal for leathers to close up for a day or two every now and then, and shed some mucousy-looking stuff. Make sure it's in enough flow to blow that stuff away.

Usually afterward, it will stand up bigger and taller than it was.

Sort of, "exfoliating" - shedding its outer stuff.

If it still is closed and droopy after more than a couple of days, check your parameters. Low alkalinity can annoy many soft corals.

Also make sure there's nothing aggressive in close proximity that might be stinging it (particularly at night when much of the "warfare" takes place.)

Don't worry yet. My toad stools somtimes close up for weeks at a time. When they re-open they are always bigger. The first time it happen to me I came close to taking it out of the tank. It looked that DEAD.

It should be more of a tan color. Blonde told stool get mad very easy but are hardy and very fast growers.

Picky people... sheesh! :doh:

I suppose Chris is right - once they are dead, some do turn white (at least hard corals do)... shortly before they turn brown or green (with algae)...

Point being, most corals have color (yes, live ones - that was implied in the OP...)... and brown *is* a color at least according to my coral supplier *g*.

White usually indicates loss of zooxanthellae.

If this is the ORA toad stool you got from twocute2b4u (I got one too) they are a white-ish cream color. Nice corals. Mine closes up every once in a while, too, but always seems to come back nice and happy.

yeah, i have several green birds nests that are brown and white a setosa(?) also
