Can high levels of Mg harm a toadstool coral? I have bryopsis and use magnesium to keep it under control. I know you should never put anything in your tank unless you can test for it but Ive never found a good way to test for Mg. Typically I dose a tsp a day until the bryopsis dies back and then cut back on the dosing. Has always worked in the past but now my toadstool has pulled in.

Does high levels of Mg harm toadstools? Other soft corals are fine.

Do toadstools sometimes go dormant as part of a self cleansing process ?

Just wondering.

Thx

They will retract for a bit sometimes to slough off their outer coat. In excess of like 3-4 days I would start to be worried.

Red sea pro mag test kit , very accurate.

Heath, how do you use yours off the scale. Every time I try scaling up the instructions I get readings that I think are not accurate.

I think there are a few people who had issues with the Red Sea mag test.

I use the seachem mag test. It's a PITA, but I feel confident in the results.

I am not a fan of their mag test. I like Elos best for mag.

My toad stool is doing that now. It is interesting that I have been more attentive to add Mg (using an Elos kit). We will see.

with the Red Sea Pro Kit it's pretty easy, the liquid stays red until you're close and then it will turn blue, and then you're done. I like it because the contrast between red and blue it's pretty obvious
