Just got a call from my wife and she says my tank is a little cloudy, of course something always happens when I am out of town. Anyways, the only thing I can think of is that yesterday my diy kalk dripper malfunctioned and in dumped like 1/2 of a litre of kalk in my tank over a period of a few hours. I didn't think much of it at the time other than that shouldn't have happened but since she called me tonight and told me that the tank was cloudy I am guessing that it what the problem is. Other than doing a wc is this going to be a problem for the livestock in the tank right now? Never had this happen so don't know what to expect.

It sounds like a Kalk overdose. I had something similar happen a couple of years ago, and and the excess kalk caused the tank to take on a cloudy appearance. If your wife has access to a Ph test, an elevated Ph will confirm that is what happened.

I had that happen once... took a sample of water to DrNecropolis' house (I didn't have a controller yet) and his pH probe said 9.9. It ticked off a bunch of livestock but no losses. It will buffer itself out eventually, but it can also be brought down manually with SLOW and CAREFUL use of white vinegar. If you consider this, read first!

Got back home today and the tank looks pretty bad....really cloudy and my softies are all closed up. Going to do a wc here in a bit and hopefully that will clear it up some. Just when you plan on putting some new frags in this has to happen ;(
