I bought a piece of tricolor, and it looked like a tri color to my in the seller's tank, but in my tank it changed to a bright greenish looking color and the encrusting base is definitely green. Does anyone know why? Now I can't convince anyone that it's a tricolor acro anymore. Do these swap pigments or something?

When I bought a frag from Rob, he told me the more lighting it has it will go purple and less lighting it will go green

interesting...I thought the opposite because the seller's tank had t5 and it's about 20" from the light, and in my tank it's sitting about 15" from 250W MH and it's greenish

Indeed interesting,

the closer I move mine to the T5s the more purple they get

could it be due to par difference between T5's and MH? may be MH is too much light and T5's is "just right" light?

yes, in fact I moved it down about a foot or so, so let's see how that will do.

As with most corals they will go through a slight adjustment phase changing tanks. There are certain corals which look nothing like their mature state as frags. Give it some time and see what happens. T5 shows colors a little better IMO than halides.

my tricolor that I got from jonboyb when he closed up his system (400Wmh) looks the same in his tank as in mine (2-250Wmhs)..

it's an ORA ticolor (so no question whether it's a true tricolor or not)..

it looks greenish with a greenish encrusting at the bottom... all the new growth is purple though..
