So I was getting out of the hobby, dragged my feet on the home stretch and somehow along the way I decided to pick up a lagoon for the few remaining corals I had in my 125 peninsula. I initially bought so I can break down and sell the big tank. Well I’ve now built a stand, ordered some rock and new equipment for what was a temporary holding tank... well it’s now going to be my new office tank.

So here goes a new chapter on reefing. I went from a 120G to a 125G peninsula to a 25 Lagoon AIO. I’m actually pretty excited about trying out nano reef life.

Here’s the finished stand. I stacked the rock quickly just to get it in the water and start the cycling process.

Welcome back. Good job on the stand!

What ate you going to use for lighting and do you have an idea on stocking plans?

I still have my XR 30 Gen 3 Pro I’ll use for now. I’m going to start slow with corals and just transfer what’s left in my 125 after the tank cycles.

Fish I’m considering;
  • Black Combtooth Blenny
  • Royal Gramma
  • Firefish
  • Clownfish
  • Orchid Dottyback

Great fish selection!

My only feedback is to specifically look for a small combtooth blenny. The size of this fish is one of the many incorrect stats on liveaquaria. I’ve seen several in the ~6” range, equivalent to adult Midas size, and would say 55 as a minimum gallon recommendation... but if you can find a small one, I think that’s an awesome choice!

Yeah, I had one back in the day and he stayed smaller than my Midas ever got. He was a great landscaper. I miss Batman.

I had the same problem trying to pick out fish for my nano. I ended up with a coral beauty, 1 purple and 1 red firefish, 2 clowns, and 2 yellow coris.
The second coris was added recently, against my better judgement, because the first ended up being female. So far, they get along fine.
I chose the dwarf angel due to its silhouette to break up all of the torpedo shaped fish in the tank, which I'm glad I did. It really helps visually.
I almost added an orchid dottyback but read they hide a lot and may be rarely seen in the tank. And the only other fish I considered was a tailspot blenny but I was never able to find one.

And you'll definitely need a cover, lol.

I’m already a step ahead, I just finished the screen before lunch! Pays off tobe in the hobby awhile and a hoarder of extra gear. I had everything I needed for the screen top but the corners that lip on the glass. This is my first rimless DT.

First attempt at rock scaping with Nyos Reef Cement. Have to give it a big thumbs down. Wanted to try something different than rods and epoxy that I’ve done in the past. Should of just stuck to what I know. It was royal pain and cured way to fast and hard to get a good mix. I’ll test it out once it fully cured for strength but it’s holding under its own weight.

Grats on the tank . Looking forward to the progress! Livestock selection is the worst part of a nano. I want EVERYTHING in my tank.

Ha. Yeah, I’m already feeling it. It’s a back and forth game. May just have to draw names out of a hat.
