Okay, so the back story, a while ago, when my tank was too young, I got what I believe was a bad anemone, (I didnt know the signs at that point)

Well, it got sucked into my canister filter, and made the most god awful mess I have yet to deal with in my tank. Thankfully I was running carbon in the canister filter, and I think that saved my fish, by the time I got up in the morning, it was gone except for green slime and bits of it stuck in the screen on the filter.

So! Today I was at animart in austell, not the cleanest fish store, but his prices tend to be the best. I had seen this anemone in his display tanks for a while, so I know it was healthy (atleast a month, maybe two) and its huge. I mean really huge.

when I saw it in the tank, it stood probably 12 inches high, the picture I am uploading of it in my tank is what he looked like today, all deflated, but he latched on very healthily, and seems to be doing alright.

It's funny, my shrimp, who never comes out, came out within an hour and started cleaning, or fighting the anemone (not completely sure which one, looked like he was boxing him)

I added some dead rock to that side of my tank to make him his own ledge away from my corals so hopefully he stays put, and gets happy, I also wanted him elevated as I only run 4x t5 HO. May add on another 2 t5 ho's soon though.

So here he is, please if you have any tips, or want to yell at me about something wrong, I could use any pointers.

The tank is now probably 3 or four months old, parameters are good. temp seems to stay around 80.

I am stocked with two clowns, that I want to host it, and once this guy stretches out, its going to be one hell of a home for them! :)

Oh and yes, i know i got some algae in the full tank photo, I think i got some bad water, going to mention it next time i go in, i got a mild to severe bloom right after a water change.

It should be a bubble tip, Let me see if I have a better picture, I will update this thread as he gets comfortable, new pics will have to wait for sunday, im at drill this weekend.

Edit: Oh, and he was originally bought at animart by a customer a while ago, apparently he got huge, split, and the other customer gave back the split.

Yeah, What color is it? that thing is nice whatever it is! I have a large purple condy, he changes all kinds of colors. He is one of the favorite things in my tank!

I only paid 50 for him, the sheer size of him in the tank was amazing. They wanted him gone because terry was worried that it was going to catch one of their fish. I have a bit more room (they had a TON of rock) so I am pretty confident I wont see any trouble, I have some room for the fish to stay away from it.

If it's a bubble tip, it's a good deal... though if it IS a bubble tip, I wouldn't think Diego would worry about it eating fish.

Well, terry was the one who told me that, and when this thing inflates, its extremely large. I don't know much about them, but thats the reason she gave for wanting it gone.

I've uploaded pics, if it ISN'T a bubble tip, what is it :P

update:
this is a pic of the anemone doing his thing. He's really great, but he according to the lfs is a long tentical anemone

It's a BTA. They're the only ones that split like that.

It looks a lot like the one(s) in a tank I maintain. I put that one in 10 years ago and it's split many times, and I've sold a lot of the clones, which have in turn split. Could well be a clone from a clone from a clone of that one (which is there still, and there are 3 there right now).

thanks Jen, I am really happy with this anemone, he doesnt bother anyone, and the clowns are starting to notice him. he comes in and out of the rock "arch" that i formed, thinking he should be on top of it, he decided he liked under it more.

I am thinking about switching to fresh bought shrimp instead of this big plate of shrimp, seems easier to deal with.

This is just a update, the anemone is healthy, eating well, and just absolutely huge. He is a huge favorite in my tank.

Try to feed him smaller pieces of food...at least from what I've read. You don't want to be encouraging him eat larger items such as fish or shrimp.

And my RTBA is similar size. Probably a good 8-10" across for the base when extended.

Just an FYI, you don't need to feed it much (if it all) unless you are trying to turbocharge the growth. My RBTA is about 16" across and I haven't fed it in 10 months... it's still growing.

I feed mine too... bought a package of silversides and cut them all in 1/3rds..

I give one to each anemone at least once a week..

I have been feeding him every couple days, he gets even bigger than that photo when he's hungry i think :P

Edit: oh and the cyano is gone, chemi clean nuked it like a charm.
