I am looking to invest in a good protein skimmer for my Solana and people have recommended the Tunze and sapphire aquatics skimmer. Does anyone have any experience with these / how they built the dock for the Tunze? Thank you! Any recommendations for a protein skimmer in this tank would be great!

I have a Tunze 9002. It's great as far as small skimmers go. I used the magnets to attach mine into the sump area of my disply tank.

It is true what I've read from many buyers of the 9002, for the money it costs, it bshould be made of higher quality materials, but it is reliable, small and quiet (my head is no more than 6 feet from it right now, and with no other noise in the room, I can't hear it)

I have the Tunze Nano Reefpack 200 which comes with the 9002 and it works great. I don't even use the filter part. I may sell it if your interested.

I have an aqua C remora with a maxijet 1200 on it. Works great on my solana which is stocked to the hilt.

Is it easy to mount and clean out? I loveee your solana... haha so that is enough to make me want to get it.

Keep the pump clean and the skimmate riser clean and this thing pulls out sum gunk. Also wery easy to adjust whether you want to skim wet or dry just by raising/lowering the collection cup.

And thanks for the compliments all.

Sorry I am still a noob to this... but what is the difference between skimming wet and dry? also, does it hang off easily? I have a top on it that I am hoping I won't have to rebuild...

But thanks for all the advice! Do you have any updated pics of your tank? I would love to see what your back chambers and other equipment looks like! I am still looking for ideas to get more pods for my mandarin, but all the fuge idea's don't sound great. (seems complicated with power outages, piping, etc.)

I am going to start a separate green tank to breed the pods, and then just add them in on a consistent basis.

Understandable, I appreciate the help! Where in Alpharetta are you at!? My parents live in Alpharetta and I am always up for some coral trading / buying frags?

I posted some pics a couple days ago in the SIG photography forum.

Here is a pic of the back of the tank. The UV filter is off the tank now and I added a phosphate reactor in its place.

Looks good, so you were saying that it is possible to get it to fit more in the back? Or does it have to hang out?

Dawgdude is correct, it is a hang on back skimmer. One of the things I liked about it is that it only had about a 3" profile off the back of the tank, which allowed me to get the whole setup very close to the wall and still leave room for messing around with wires and such.

Try this link http://www.proteinskimmer.com/">http://www.proteinskimmer.com/</a>

It is Aqua C's website and then read the reviews on places like [IMG]http://www.marinedepot.com/">http://www.marinedepot.com/</a>

Then make your decision based on what you want to accomplish with your system. For me, the hang on back setup works because I wanted to fill one of the rear compartments with live rock and I wanted a beefy skimmer pump (for a 34 gal) but did not want to deal with a sump, overflows, returns, etc. on my first tank. I kept it very simple.
