Just found a new ( too me ) salt in orange bag for reefs I've been using purple bag. Really make a difrrence ?

I kinda have a reef I guess mushrooms zoos sponges scallops few hard sps frags lots of anemonies ect. A brain and a cap of some sort I need this salt really $5 more a bag ?I know "wrong hobby if ur chep" well I am and I like the tanks so is it that helpful?

I believe one contains the trace elements - the cheapper doesn't,

for 5$ a bag - don't risk it...

If the difference is only $5 per bag, get the more expensive (i.e., better) one. Your corals will thank you.

Are you referring to Reef Crystals? That comes in an orange bag.

Instant Ocean comes in a purple bag. Both are made by Aquarium Systems.

The former has more trace elements for reefs, the latter is more for fish-only, but either will work, you will just need to dose more with Instant Ocean to keep your calcium and other trace elements in line.

The cost difference between salts will probably be offset by the amount of dosing you will or won't have to do - in other words you'll spend the $5 on supplements if you go with the cheaper salt.

Of course you should test before dosing (ie Calcium, Magnesium, etc.)...

I pay the extra for reef crystals, it is worth it in my book by not having to dose as much up before adding it into my system.
