Hello, folks. Since I am new to a tank of this size, I wanted to get the opinion from experienced mp40 users if they think two of these would be sufficient for a tank of this size? It seems that up to 6400 gph on a 180 gallon (6-feet long) would suffice, but when I posted two mp40's in the WTB forum I got a response that they would not be enough for this tank. Granted, I would likely alternate power from each pump, so it would be less than the max gph. I could always add a couple more pumps on the back of the tank if more circulation is needed, but wanted to get others opinions on this. If you have experience with mp40's on a tank of this size, please share you experiences. I really appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

I have 2 in my 6' tank. (175 gal)
I actually have to dial them back a little.

Great powerheads !

You must frequent WWM, like me

Yes, a wonderful resource. I have learned a great deal browsing that site and directly asking questions to their dedicated crew. Years ago, when I first found the site, I was surprised when I got immediate responses from Bob Fenner and Anthony Calfo, who were authors of a couple of my favorite aquarium books.

Love those folks at WWM.

gnashty, I noticed on your TOTM you also ran two Koralia 4's from the back (in addition to your mp40's). I'll start with the mp40's, but do you think I will need to add more circulation? My aquascaping will likely be similar to yours and have a good deal of open space.

ive got 2 on my 125 dialed back as well, flow is great, recently added an mp10 to the back wall just for a little more randomized flow, it is dialed back almost as far as it will go. you will be fine, the guy that said it might not be enough flow had an mp40 in his fuge at one point...

Two on my 125. Couple dead spots. But that can be from rock work. Using return pump to remedy. Should be enough for you though

Yep...while 2 do a fine job, I could use an MP10 or something for a dead spot.
