As i mentioned in my my tank thread im having a little trouble with my toadstool at the minute. He's definitely not happy and has stayed retracted for quite some time 3 Weeks. Checked my nitrates and they still low hard to tell exact number with the red sea test as im blue/purple colorblind and thats the scheme on the card. I know that the water after the test is very pale rather than very dark.

I also managed to break one of my L.E.D.s by dropping it in the water so my light is a bit low at the minute. So i moved him higher up in the tank he's now 30 CM from the light rather than the 52CM he was before. (Aquaray L.E.Ds)

Also when i moved him higher this has changed the direction of the flow of water on him and lots of mucas was coming off him so i think he was having trouble discarding this as well.

Now he also has some algae growing over his stalk should i take this off??

I know he's still alive as he has a few polyp tenticles that come out. When the lights are on. So is this just down to the lighting or are there any other things i should be looking out for.

blow off all the algae on him, move him around to see where he likes the most (light/flow). there's must be a spot best fit for him.

Check your alkalinity. Soft corals (including leathers) often look "unhappy" if the alkalinity isn't to their liking. They also need decent flow to blow the slough off them when they "shed" periodically.

Jenn

+1 to Jenn's comment. Most bubble anemones are the same way..

Alkalinity is normal to low. PH dropped to 7.6 Im guessing from all the water changes to sort of my Nitrates have caused that also my salinity has got up to 1.029.

Amazing how much can happen to your params when you take your eyes of them. Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrates under control though least i can do that bit right lol.

Theres a buffer treatment within my Red sea test kit is says add 1ml per 15 gallons once a week so will go through with that. Whats the safest way to bring the salinity down.

You can go down on salinity as fast as you need its going up you have to do slowing to keep the pressure (which is what happens raising it quickly) off the inside of the livestock.... just make sure you have some buffer mixed for the amount of WC you do so you're alk and Ph levels don't drop as well...
