Unusual???

One of my first coral purchase was some GSP. For several months it didn’t do a lot. Then it started to grow but not crazy. Last couple months it has grown big time. About two months ago I noticed something I thought was growing out of it. I kept an eye on it as it continued to grow and then noticed a second one. Finally remembered to get a picture of it tonight only to find an emerald crab scaling it. LOL So, all the polyps are pulled in on these pics but normally the polyps are fully extended on all of it. Is it normal for GSP to grow vertical tubes like this?

First time I've ever seen anything like that, most be something in the water... quick I think you should give me give me all your corals before anything else could go wrong.

At least now I know you actually read my posts. LOL I think it is pretty cool but was just wondering if it is normal.

Yes.............. O wait saw title of this thread with your name underneath and thought this was a poll my mistake haha. Tagging along i know gsp will grow in strange patterns but havent seen something like this before.

never seen that weed called GSP do that before, you need to find someone to hand that off too before it takes over the entire bottom of your tank. But just in case you chose not to do that I will be more than happy to take that scoly off your hands for safe keeping so it doesn't get smothered and any branching acro and monti it might grow over. Think Kudzu when talking about GSP

Too late dude. I am donating the scolly to ARC to auction off and all the proceeds will be donated to either Breast Cancer Research or to the charity of choice of Dylan's friends. For those of you who missed it, Dylan is cutting his hair to give to Locks of Love in honor of the baby girl of some close friends of his. We are taking donations of $30 a head (or I assume whatever you are willing to contribute) to see him cut his hair at the auction. I also challenged anyone to top my donation for the auction and give the proceeds to whichever charity is chosen. Not sure yet but the club may match a certain amount of the donations as well.

What I got from Pure Reef was labeled as branching star polyps (as contrasted, I'm assuming, with a form that just mats across everything in its path). Mine doesn't have tubes, but it definitely grows up into branches, and not just a mat.

This started out as a mat that was just bigger than a quarter. It was somewhat of a slow grower for the longest time. Now, up high under the LEDs it hasn't spread a lot but extends a ton and is growing these tubes. I know a lot of people think of them as weeds but I like them.

It isn't the GSP that is taking over my tank. It is those green palys you gave me. LOL They are everywhere in my tank. I even have a clump that attached to a grain of sand and are growing like mad. But I like them too.

It's an odd growth pattern for the GSP, possibly influenced by flow, neighbouring corals, or your odd sense of humour No cause for concern though, IMO - just kind of weird and different... like you, Rich!

My GSP did the same thing. In my case it surrounded a teal paly and slowly grew up and around it leaving the tube.

See, it fits right in. LOL

It has a blue tip stage horn on one side of it and candy cane on the opposite and another candy cane in front of it. The back side is about three inches from the tank wall with nothing in between. No big deal though, I like it. :yes:
