Upgrade advice

Totally depends on your system now...
If you need</em> a bigger/better skimmer that would be most important.
If you want</em> automation then get an Apex (I wouldn't even consider a ReefKeeper).

Thanks, my skimmer is a bubble magus curve 5. It works well but I think I could always go bigger. I have a small bioload with only 6 fish.

Starry Blenny
Diamond Goby
Regal Tang
Yellow Tang
2 Clowns

Planning on upgrading it next year if I add any new fish

I'd go with an Apex first. I think your skimmer is more than adequate. An Apex can be a life saver in the case of flooding or over heating. Those are the main reasons I wen with an Apex Lite.

Assume you are happy with your lighting since you did not include? I agree though that #1 consideration should be what ever benefits your corals and Fish most. If your lighting or skimmer need upgrading I would go that route. If you are away a lot and need the automation to maintain the tank for the corals and fish consistently, then Apex

I run kessils so I am good on the lighting corals and livestock are doing great.

Apex without a doubt!

nick,
How do you like the Kessil? I'm looking at swapping my lights out. Love the theory behind the Kessil but the ony thing I don't like is the fact that it looks like I can't ramp the color up from blue to full spectrum through the automation, right?

A360W/N/WE can ramp from full blue to full white with a 0-10v signal. Now if you mean tweak individual spectrum the answer is no.

So I took your advice to heart and bought a reef octopus diablo xs 200 with some BRS gift cards i got for Christmas. I am happy I got it instead of the apex. I am also building a new sump with refugium to house the new bigger skimmer. I think I will be happy with my purchase. Going from this bubble magus curve 5 to the diablo should be night and day. I am planning on getting an apex jr from the money I get from selling the bubble magus. Thanks for the advice!

To me an Apex is just a fancy toy if you have the proper barriers in place need not worry about anything. I say skimmer although your bio load is not heavy at the moment it will be one day I imagine. Skimmer all the way!

I really can't justify the $369 for the lite. I mean I really am still on the fence for getting one. I just want to use it as a fail safe for heaters and pumps really. Was even considering a reef keeper but have heard the worst things about them. I think the jr will do what I need it to do.

Haha! Glad you read that. Yeah can't go wrong with an overpowered/great quality skimmer. Happy with my new sump build too. Should be sweet. Thanks for commenting!
