So i moved all livestock, rock, inverts, coral sand everything from my 75 to my new 120. I am feeling really stressed at the moment. I really dont want anything to die during this transition. I feel like my return pump isnt pumping hard enough at all. Water is super murky but i can see fish swimming around everynow and then. Super stressed right now.

How did you go about this?

Edit: what return pump are you using, is the 120 dual overflow? Did you use new water in the 120 or put water from the 75 in there. What about the sand, new or from the 75? What powerheads do you have? Are you running filter socks and what micron. Those will help clear it up. Do you have any Carbon you can throw in a bag in the sump?

In my opinion the return pump isn't as important as the powerheads that give the majority of the flow. As long as you are getting about 500gph out of the return you should be good. What is the murkiness from? Did the sand get stirred up? Look at it closely and make sure it isn't micro bubbles. If you turn off the return and it clears up immediately then micro bubbles are probably the problem. If not, I'm with smallblock on the filter sock and carbon. Also if you have a skimmer running, crank it up a little for a while. Just make sure if you aren't going to be there and it overflows it doesn't come out of the tank.

I transfered all the sand and water from old tank and added more water. Its a felt sock not sure on the micron. It is dual overflow. As of now i have 2 koralia 4's in there. I was planning on carbon going today. Just seems the sump looks like its stagnant not moving much. A lit clearer today. I know itll take some time to get it clear but i was ready to give up last night. My bulkheads started leaking cause they werent tight enough, water as everywhere. Very stressed. Wish i would have kept my old tank up.

just curious..why didnt u wait for it to clear before adding livestock..was it an emergency transfer because the old tank failed?

IMO flow through your sump is not your immediate problem. I don't like to move sand when I transfer tanks. Too much sediment gets stirred up. With that said, I would immediately check ammonia, nitrate, etc to make sure you are not running high. If you have any ammonia, I would do another water change. I'm in Marrieta not far from you and I have about 50G of new saltwater mixed up if you need saltwater today. Let me know.

Happy to say tank is starting to clear and ive seen all but 2 fish, yellow coris wrasse amd a peraly jaw, both are hopefully in the sand bed. Fed them some nori and mysis tonight and all fish ate. Tested for ammonia with a 0 reading.

Edit: OO and thanks Bobz for the powerheads that has already been a tremendous help.
