I bought a blue tux urchin and drip acclimated it for over an hour. Unfortunately I still osmoticly shocked it. Its moving around a little and seems to be keeping its spines. How long should I expect it to take to recover? Anything to do other than just watch and hope?

Thanks

Nothing I know of.

How do you figure you shocked it? Huge difference between bag water and your tank, specific gravity?

Not really a lot of info in your post to make a good diagnosis.

When did you put it in the tank?
What makes you feel you put it in shock?

Urchins are not fast moving creatures. They're more like glaciers, moving around SLOWLY, knocking stuff over and clearing down to the bare rock.

Yes, I suspect there was a big difference. Didnt measure the bag water and my water was around 1.023. I suspect theirs was on the low side because i got the "wavy line" effect when I mixed the two. Thats why I put it on slow drip and left it alone until the bucket was 3/4 full.

Edit: Je, not sure what you mean by "when did I put it in the tank". When I say its moving slow we are talking about 1 inch in two days.

Yeah, was looking for how long it had been in the tank. 1" in 2 days isn't a death sentence for a new urchin, but it should be moving more than that soon if it's healthy.

Give it a couple of days.

Urchins are crazy sensitive to changes and need long/slow acclimation.
