Using an eel to light up a Christmas Tree

It may be environmentally friendly in terms of a green energy source, but I'm not so sure about the morality of using an animal for it...

How is it any different than using a horse to ride a trail or pull a cart?

True - I guess it's no different. The only part that I question is that, in order to extract electricity efficiently from the eel, I imagine that it's container and electrodes doesn't give it much room to move around.

But, given that eels are considered a normal part of diet in much of Asia, this may not be an issue in that culture.
 
I just have to say, this is shocking news indeed!
