I just bought 2 RODI canisters from ebay. I currently use a RODI canister as a buffering reactor for my Calcium Reactor, and I think it's working great. So, I've bought 2 more canisters and am hoping to do this again with Carbon and GFO. Has someone done this before? And how were your results? Is a Carbon/GFO reactor made differently somehow?

you can get the inserts at brs, I've seen them behind the counter at creation reef too.

Edit: measure it first I think the are the same but not sure. You can always ask brs they are very helpfull.

The only issue that I'm aware of by using just the canister is that you don't have any way of forcing the water down (or up) through the material...in this case carbon and GFO. It will simply pass across the top. You'll need to employ something that takes the water to the bottom of the cartridge. Look at a Two Little Fishies Reactor and you'll see what I mean.

3/4" thin wall PVC cut to length will do the trick - I has the same ID like the cartridges...

This is what I was thinking, will this work?

Yea, I bought the parts from Ebay. And it's about $20 cheaper to buy the parts as if I'm building an RODI unit rather than buy a reactor.

I'd love to get some more info/pics on this... I'm getting ready to set up my calcium reactor and I was wondering what I was going to do to keep the pH up.

use ro/di cans pop the plastic straner on the top of the can and super glue nylon screen on the inside to hold media in do the same to the bottom also. the foam reduse flow of the pump and clog ues 1/4 nylon tude gowing in and out 1/4 will limet you to 100-200gph i use a 400gph gfo/carbon 300 on zeliot system i run the returns to the main display ben a year with the set up with no problems

Use housings with 1/2" ports
Use 1/2" tubing
Use modified refillable cartridges
reverse the flow of water into and out of the housings
Use a 1/2" union connector to attach the 1/2" tubing to a 1200 maxijet
