I was on the Neptune website and noticed they sell a wireless expansion module. My question is, do you need that to run a vortech or does it replace the controller that come with the powerhead?

if it's like the tunze stream controller it will replace the controller that came with the units/sold to control the units..

I just purchased the powerheads and the Apex is the controller (of course Tunze powerheads are wired, not wireless)

The Neptune Apex module becomes the master and the vortech controllers become the slaves. You still need the vortech controllers though.

Ok I guess a better question is, do I need to get it if I wanna run a vortech on an apex controller, or can I just plug it in to the EB8?

Plugging it into the powerbar would only turn the unit on/off by cutting power to the vortech. The Neptune Vortech control module can vary the flow of the pump like the Vortech controller does.

The only real advantage to the module is you are also able to run different vortech modes at different set times. For example, you could run reef crest in the morning and then pusle it for a wave in the afternoon...or pretty much any combo of modes/times you want. You are also able to have the Neptune control all pumps by hitting one feed button, instead of having to hit the feed on the neptune and the vortech.
