Vinegar

Been dosing it in my 210 for a few days. This is a fowlr with a few corals here and there. It's pretty overfed thanks to my wife's love of the two small Cortez rays in there.

Chemistry is probably less than ideal... And the phosphates are not low by any means.

There was a little cyano on the rocks, and since I have been dosing the vinegar, it has been going away like crazy.

I have been southern style dosing: just a Lil bit a few times a day, give or take.

We'll see...

Vinegar is a carbon source, like vodka. I initially began to dose so that I could drop phosphates. The cyano going away is just a convenience. I hear that there are articles out there that explain why vinegar does what it does, but I haven't read them.

why type of vinegar and how much. i have a 29 and from pictures i have seen also have a cyano problem. thanks michael

In order for this to be effective, you would want an efficient skimmer. If you don't have a good skimmer, the vinegar can mess things up. I use white distilled vinegar


Holley, I hadnt checked.... The coral load is very small and the softies in that tank are bullet proof, so as long as they seem happy, I'm happy. Plus I do the weekly water change with red sea pro. I'll check levels and post them this evening

Checked it really quick. Alk 3.5mg/l and pH is 8.0
